4 things to know about Romero

Romero stands at 1.85m – that’s the same height as Clement Lenglet, about 2m smaller than Ter Stegen and Ronald Araujo. The Atalanta man is by no means small.

The 23-year-old also weighs 79kg which is decent for a centre-back – not heavy and not lightweight either.

Romero is physically strong, powerful and can’t be bullied off the ball easily.

Romero is a swashbuckling centre-back who likes to pass the ball with a lot of confidence. He’s a tough tackler too.

The young defender is not shy to dribble his way out of trouble once in a while. It must be noted that he’s good in the air, given his height and physical strength.

Last season’s performance

Romero featured 31 times in Serie A last season. He helped the Bergamo-based club keep 8 clean sheets and qualify for the Champions League.

Altogether, Romero played 45 games last season, including 3 Copa America appearances for Argentina. He helped his teams keep 15 shutouts.

The Cordoba-born defender didn’t receive a red card last season, but he was shown a yellow card on an alarming 15 occasions.

Romero is on loan from Juventus, although Atalanta has a buy option inserted in his contract.

Atalanta will likely activate the buy clause with Juve on the defender and then sell him for €55m – as per recent quotes.

However, Transfermarkt pegs Romero’s market value at €35m.

Barcelona wants to sign Romero on loan and tie him down permanently after.
